Rotary Shaft Seals

Rotary shaft seals (AKA Shaft Seals, Radial Lip Seals, Grease Seals and Dust Seals) are used to seal rotating machine elements against media from the inside and/or contamination from the outside environment.

A rotary shaft seal is used to protect applications with a rotating shaft in wet environments. The rotary shaft seal keeps lubricant (oil, grease or water) inside the application and prevents the ingress of water and dirt.

Standard rotary shaft seal types

  • Type A - This incorporates a rubber outer casing and ensures excellent static sealing

  • Type B - This carries a metal outer casing and effects a firm and precise fit into the seal housing.

  • Type C - This includes a metal insert to give the B type additional rigidity. This makes it more suitable for difficult and hostile conditions.

All of the above seal types are available with a secondary dust lip which is used to avoid the entry of dust and dirt. We also offer a high-pressure version of the A style which carries a secondary dust lip.

The two most standard materials for rotary shaft seals are Nitrile and Fluorocarbon (Trade name Viton). However, we are also able to offer the following materials:
